Antique Tiny Swag, Japanese kanji marked wooden float and glass float, 1800s

Antique Tiny Swag, Japanese kanji marked wooden float and glass float, 1800s

SKU: 364215375135191

A Japanese wooden cylinder float from the 1800s, 2.5" to 4"  tall, this was a used net float, way before glass was used.
The chop marks are all original branding, some even have old ink writing as well.

Or tell me if you want a flat marker float instead, these average 5 - 8" long. Used from late 1700s to early 1900s, they are PRE Glass and before the cylinder markers, after the cylinder markers became popular, the flat markers were them used as basket tags and fish markers at the local waterside markets. Be warned though, most are covered in fish scales, but over 100 year old scales, So nothing gross or stinky, just shiny flakes.

The attached 2.5" glass float was made from recycled bottles at the time, and used for floating fishing nets from 1910 to 1960, before the mass production of plastic and foam fishing floats were introduced. Some of the glass floats have kanji, a stamp from the maker of the float, some do not.

Most are 12" to 16" overall, you can easily DIY the rope hanger if you want it an exact length. Thank you for looking.
